What is #30DaysWild?

#30dayswild is a fantastic initiative created by the Wildlife Trusts, designed to inspire everyone to connect with the wonders of nature throughout the month of June. The challenge is simple yet transformative: commit to doing something nature-related every day for 30 days. Whether you’re exploring a nature reserve, taking a walk in your local park, discovering something interesting in your garden, or learning something new about nature and wildlife, the idea is to fully immerse yourself in the beauty of nature round you—regardless of where you are.

Why Join the #30DaysWild Challenge?

If you’re looking for reasons to take part in #30DaysWild consider this: the benefits of spending time in nature are plentiful. Not only does it provide you with a great opportunity for exercise, but it also promotes mindfulness and overall well-being. Engaging with nature can help reduce stress, improve your mood, and boost mental clarity. This challenge encourages everyone to appreciate their local environment, while also fostering a deeper connection with the natural world.

How to Participate in #30DaysWild

Getting involved in #30DaysWild is as easy as stepping outside! You can document your experiences, share them on social media, or even keep a personal journal detailing your daily adventures. I've been sharing mine daily on Instagram. Suggestions for activities include going for a nature walk, planting flowers, identifying birds, plants and animals or even just sitting in the back garden with a cup of tea listening to the sounds around you. The only limit is your imagination! The goal is to find joy in everyday encounters with nature and inspire others to do the same.

Two thirds of the way through the month and I've realised that the majority of the things I've noticed or discovered about nature and wildlife have actually been found in our own back garden. I didn't have to go very far to find some beautiful and amazing things at all. One of the best ones so far has been finding a snail half way up our back door. It's shell was cracked and squashed in on one side where it has been crushed at some point, but had healed. It was such an unusual sight and an example of resilience and nature overcoming adversity.

One of the best things about taking part in the challenge is that the benefits of connecting with nature often spill over into your daily life, promoting a sense of peace and fulfillment long after June has ended.

Joining in with the #30DaysWild challenge helps cultivate a deeper appreciation for the nature around you, all while enhancing your mental and physical health. Who knows? You might just discover a new passion that lasts a lifetime!
